Coin questions
So this game has collectible coins that you can find when you examine every nook and cranny of the various areas. This, of course, leads me to check every nook and cranny every chance I get - I gathered 10 coins in the first morning of Chapter 1 before the first story beat even started. I have some questions about this:

  • Will coins ever re-appear in items that you've checked before?
  • In order to not miss any coins, do I need to immediately check EVERY single unchecked item I have access to before going to the next story beat?
  • Is it possible to miss coins permanently in a way that if I miss one, I can't get it again unless I start the entire game from the beginning?

Just asking, because I feel like if I'm forced to check every nook and cranny before I continue, it's going to eventually drive me nuts. I especially wasn't a fan of a few coins being randomly placed in a set of otherwise-identical washing machines.

Yeah coins do re-appear in areas that you've checked before, and YES if you wish to collect as much coins as possible you need to check everywhere before going on with the story, and YES i think that you can miss coins permanently if you go on with the story without searching around the school during free-time, during my first playthrough i've searched every single room in the school everytime i had the occasion to do so, and the more you advance in the game, the more rooms will be explorable, so if you're not a patient person it can be pretty annoying to look around the school as it can take quite the time to explore, but i feel like you don't need to get every single Monokuma coins during your first playthrough, you can always re-play a Chapter if you want to farm some coins. Not sure if eveything i said is 100% true though !

You get like 100ish coins for completing a chapter. And if memory serves you get like 200 for completing the school mode.
So dont worry about money you will get more later (freetime with celeste will even give you a coin boosting skill)

That's annoying that I can miss coins permanently, but I suppose the fact that I can get buckets of them in other ways makes it seem like they're a nice extra to have as opposed to vital.

I'm not going to be missing out on significant plot points, am I? There's no true ending or significant story beat that requires X number of coins to get or anything?

And if they reappear at a location - at what point do they have the potential to reappear? Potentially after any story beat? Only when I finish a chapter or trial or whatever?

The coins just allow you to get gifts to give during freetime events.
And get stuff in the extras menu.
They dont contribute to anything other than side stuff. They dont even matter much.

Coins reappear everytime you go to sleep in your bed and wake up to a new day i think, it's unlikely to find them at the same location as the day before but is not impossible either.

There are LOADS of opportunites to get coins, yeah. Also, conserve as much as possible. It's literally statistically not worth it to use more than one coin until there's like, a 90% repeat chance. The reduction is too small per coin, basically. That should save you coins.

Honestly, you really don't have to look at everything if you are wanting coins since they are very easily earned in a class trial which is the easiest way to earn coins efficiently and fast.

If you still have the habit of looking for them (I know I do) I recommend grabbing the skill 'Raise' (from Celeste) which like the name suggests raises the amount of coins you get.

Do not worry about singular coins! Once you have a decent amount of gifts, it will take over 20+ coins just to have a 50% chance at something new. To get every coin availble outside of trials and other game modes just isn't worth the time investment.

Do NOT feel forced to check and re-check every blade of grass. Instead feel rewarded for exploring and investigating. Enjoy the story before making yourself hate the game.

There is much better coin to be made in newgame+.
