School mode: some explanations
Hi there,

For those who don't know, after finishing the game you unlock a "School mode" which is a very nice mini-game that I won't spoil here because discovery is half the fun.

I will nonetheless offer a bit of warning after I played it three times in a row and mostly wasted two of these playthrough which can be frustrating. Because not everything about this mode is clearly explained (or even explained at all).

The school mode is played across fifty days. Each day, you'll have to do something for the mini-game (the one I won't spoil), then you'll get the remaining of the day as free time. What happens during this free time is the focus of my post.

Free-time in school mode looks a lot like the free-time in the vanilla game and indeed, the most obvious use is to max out your skills and complete every diary entry.
There are two things you can do when talking to a character in free time:
- Spend some time with them
- Use a ticket to go somewhere with them.

Spending some time with them: you already know what this is. It's exactly like the free-time during the big game. And everything you already did doesn't need to be done again. You continue from where you left off. And you can replay the school mode as many times as you wish if you've still got some diary entries missing.

Now, using a ticket is something new and absolutely not explained. The tickets you spend here are won through the other half of the day. They are not the problem.
First thing to know is that going somewhere with a character is absolutely useless if you just want to complete the diary entries. It won't earn you any sympathy and is as such a waste of time if you only want to complete the diaries.
Second, and that's the catch: it's absolutely useless to do it as long as you haven't already completed all the diary entries. And I really mean all of them. Not only the ones for the chracter you're interested in.

What happens in these events completes a gauge (that you can see by talking to Monokuma). The gauges are reset at every playthrough, so it's useless to use your tickets thinking you won't need to do it again later.
On the 51st day, you'll get a small event with every character whose gauge you maxed out if, and only if, you already have all the diary entries completed.

To truly complete the school mode, you need to have seen all these events at least once (you don't have to do it in a single playthrough though).

This ended being longer than I expected. Maybe I should have posted this in a guide...

If you think anything up there is unclear, I welcome your remarks.

Thanks this sounds really interesting. I've seen my sister playing this game on nds back then or something similar to this. There was a guy who had the ability to control the time and move to the past. It was a detective adventure kind of game but unfortunately i forgot it.

Does this game have unique choices which can lead to death?

I guess you're talking about Ghost Tricks.

Danganronpa is quite different (though both are visal novels with a touch of gameplay).

There is a bad ending in Danganronpa, but the game doesn't punish you if you take the bad choice. You just go back to just before the choice.

Thanks for the explanation!

I was scared I would have to replay the whole game or something to be able to do that
