DanganRonpa beta - distrust

I recently found out about the original DanganRonpa beta, named distrust. For those who don't know about it - it's a more serious and more brutal version of DanganRonpa. It's completly in böack an white, except for the blood (which is red btw).
I really like the DanganRonpa series, but I always felt like it wasn't serious enough. The concept of Distrust sounds great to me, since it combines the killing school life of DanganRonpa with gruesome deaths and a creepy enviroment (for example, Monokuma was supposed to be a man with half his skin missing). Has Spike released the beta, or at least another game which is similar to the beta?

Pretty sure it never got anywhere. I remember it said that in Distrust you have some influence on who dies and who survives which is how I thought Danganronpa should've played. Maybe expecting a freeform game would be too much, but surely you can have say 8 or so murder cases and just swap guys around as the murderer/victim where it makes sense.

Nope. Well, unless you count Zero Escape, but that's similar to Distrust only in tone. They changed Distrust to what Danganronpa is now in order to avoid to high of an age rating. Also, they considered the original design for Monokuma for only like a minute before they decided they wanted a cuter character. They actually do have footage of a beta execution for Distrust and it has the Monokuma we're familiar with.

I see. I somehow didn't notice that Monokuma was in the beta execution. I might check out Zero Escape though, as long as it has a serious setting.
I guess I understand why they would avoid a higher age rating. I live in germany, so the game would probably be forbidden here (For some reason german dudes are really strict about brutal video games... Idk why -.-)
