That said, it's actually more cost efficient to constantly spend only one coin per turn, at least until about 80/90% percent.
But if your goal is to collect items, one at a time is the best value for your coins. Not only do you get the most gifts that way, but (IIRC) on average you get the most new gifts too.
The real value in spending multiple coins at once is when you have a lot of coins and are nearing (and trying to achieve) 100% completion -- you can save time by reducing the repeat rate to 0%.
Maybe at some point there is time efficiency in replaying a trial to collect coins so you can start doing that sooner... but if you're at the point of optimizing your RL time, it's probably better to arrange it so you can spend one coin at a time while you're watching something else.
