Just got this game, and it is not registering my PS4 controller
Is this due to being a 2012 release and originally being on the PSP in 2010 before the PS4, or is there a different issue I am neglecting to see?

Okay, for now I am gonna mark this as the answer, but I am having more problems with V3 (So it may be a little off topic for the time being until I ask a similar question in that discussion board) since I am not seeing Mouse and Keyboard inputs (Instead seeing Xbox gamepad inputs?), as well as clicking through the text being a literal pain in the butt, so I am using gamepad there. However, much more managable here in THH aside from what I have going on.

try your settings for the controller in big picture mode, make sure you have the correct layout and that its paired properly.
