I do have a controller, so Player One can use KB/M and Player Two uses the controller and that all works. However, I was wondering how to make it so both players can just use KB/M.
if it doesnt work here is the only information from the official website regarding split screen:
Start split-screen mode
Create or load your save normally.
Build a cabin for each new player in single-player mode.
Connect a controller to your computer/console for each extra player. (The keyboard on PC is always reserved for the first player, though the first player can use a controller too.)
Open the in-game menu and choose the Options tab.
Scroll down to the Multiplayer section and choose Start Local Co-op.
Have each extra player press start on the connected controller.
If the host loaded the world via "Co-Op" on the title screen, you can have both remote and split-screen players in the same world (subject to the restrictions).
if you want to visit the site yourself here is the link:

hope the information is usefull for you guys.
There is very little information anywhere regarding multiplayer controllers in Stardew Valley. For such a popular game, that's kind of strange, or so I think anyways.
There's one workaround I know about and used it to play other games with my friends, it consists of downloading a "controller emulator" on the second player's computer, which basically maps their keyboard keys to a fake virtual controller and then you can use this fake controller on Remote Play Together.
It can be a little awkward though, especially when interacting with UIs like the items in your backpack, because there's no mouse support and you feel like you're playing on some kind of console emulator.
