How to change your cabin type in multiplayer without deleting your character!!

Perhaps there will be a way to reassign farmhand cabins in multiplayer later. But for now, this workaround involves save file editing. If you can't handle the temptation of unlimited power, then don't read on =)

My wife and I started a coop game and she ended up in the log cabin, but she liked the look of another cabin better. We figured out we could move and destroy and build new cabins in single player mode, but occupying a new cabin meant making a new character. Since we were well into summer, we didn't want to do that, so we searched the forums in vain for a way to change the type of HER cabin. After some trial and error, we figured it out. Here's how to do it.

1. Whoever is hosting the farm, navigate to your save file: AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves

2. Open your save game folder associated with your coop game: "yourname_numbers"

3. Copy everything in this folder to your desktop or wherever for a backup.

4. Choose your save game (also: "yourname_numbers"), and open it in notepad.

Note: there are 3 types of cabins. Stone cabin, Log cabin, Plank cabin. You need to know what kind of cabin your friend is in. Let's say he is in a log cabin.

5. Press ctrl+F to open the search function in notepad and search for "log cabin" (without quotes, WITH space). It should take you to something that looks like this: <buildingType>Log Cabin</buildingType>

6. Change it to "Plank Cabin" (without quotes) or whatever type you want. Make sure there is a space between the words.

7. Save the file. Load your game and see your new cabin. Enjoy =)

(We played several more days with no errors. Of course, this may not work after future updates, so make sure you BACK UP your save file)

This still works! Even with the new 1.6 update (with a bunch of new cabin types) You can find the names of the new cabins on the stardew wiki and then just use those names e.g. Neighbor Cabin
