Sprinkler Does Not Fill Pet Bowl

Year 4, so I am looking for ways to save time. My pet already loves me. I pet it every day, but the watering bowl should be easier to take care of than your own children.

To reproduce:
1) Not sure if the farm location maters, but I am at the beach.
2) Place sprinkler (regular basic sprinkler, did not try with quality nor iridium, but expect same results) on the North side of the bowl.
3) In the morning, on a regular sunny day, the bowl will be empty - despite sprinklers being able to water slime farms.

Sprinklers can't fill the water bowl. Since your pet already loves you, there's no reason to fill its water anyway. Pet friendship can't decrease for any reason.

Which is why this is a bug report, they should be able to fill up water bowls

Bug reports are generally for unintended game behavior or crashes. This isn't a bug, as sprinklers aren't intended to fill the water bowl.

By posting this here, it seemed to me that you thought the sprinkler was supposed to be filling the water bowl but wasn't working for some reason. You even included steps to reproduce, which are typically used to describe how others might reproduce a bug that one is experiencing.

Suggestions are meant to go in general discussions (as mentioned in the pinned welcome thread there). You'd likely get more relevant and desired responses by posting there than here.

Who intended this behavior? It clearly works elsewhere (see the slime farm for examples).

That is correct.

This is not a suggestion, this is a bug.

It's intended by the game's code. Sprinklers are coded to water crops and slime hutch troughs but not potted plants or the pet's water bowl. This information can be found on the wiki and by looking at update change logs.

While it may not seem intuitive or consistent, it's not a bug; it's a feature.

well I mean in real life you need to go wash and dry your dogs water bowl once in awhile so we couldnt just leave it by a sprinkler forever and never visit it

Game mechanics for Stardew Valley -- Slime Hutches can be refilled with a sprinkler -- so should the pet bowl.
