Mr. Qi's Quest Not Working?

I just started working on Mr. Qi's quest and he asked me to put 10 beets in Mayor Lewis' fridge. I have the beets in my inventory but when I go into his house and try to put them in his fridge, the game won't let me? I tried coming back on different days and becoming friends with the Mayor but it doesn't seem to be working. Is this a bug in the game?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe all the beets have to be a single stack (I have some gold star, some silver, and some without). Any information would be lovely. Thank you.

Don't assume it's like your refrigerator. Think of it as gifting. Gift the refrigerator the beets by having it as your active item.

I simply had them in my inventory, then inspected the fridge. Different qualities.

Are you sure they are the item actually called "beet", and are you sure you are in the mayor's house?

I was in the right place and I was holding beets. My problem was that I didn't have them all in a single stack (some were gold, some silver, etc.). When I got 10 of the same quality, I was able to "gift" the beets to the fridge. Hope that helps if anyone else has the same problem.
