Disappearing Storage chest and other disappearing items
Built several storage chests (50 wood type) near the small pond. Mid-way through fall 1st year and 1 of my chests disappear. This chest had ALL of my rare fish catches

I did not do anything, no attacks with weapons or farm equipment to make it movable or anything... It was there right before i slept and when i wake up its gone

Is there a limit to how many actual items there are on the farm map?? I just recently started to try my hand at planting fruit trees. I have 2 recycling machines and several ore smelters near the lake as well as various crops, sprinklers and scarecrows.....

I havent upgraded my house or built the coop / animal stuff yet. I did make the cave into a mushroom place.

UPDATE APRIL 12, 2016

Been a while since my last update, people are still reporting items disappearing. Keep posting here and try to contact the dev to make them aware this is still a problem.

Since twitter is prettty lively consider contacting them there to make them aware that this is still a problem ~

I think the only way to try to find a solution going forward is to contact the dev directly and email him save games where the 'disappearing act' is seeable or recreateable!

http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Saved_Games

WINDOWS:

the save game location is in the C:\Users\[USERID]\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves\

Each character has their own sub-folder in the save folder.

IF you encounter a dissappearing item or see it disappear and you quit and reload and it still happens PLEASE! quit the game go to your save file location and copy your character's save.

I can't find the dev's email and i don't want to post it even if i knew it. Please go to their website contact page below and send them your save file as well as brief them on what happened.

http://stardewvalley.net/contact/

OR

give them a tweet to contact and ask for where to send save files.

https://mobile.twitter.com/concernedape

Please also tell them to check this particular thread since more people are posting about item problems here.

Thank you for reading my lengthy update and I hope we can give him enough saves with item problems. Also please continue posting who what where when and how your item disappeared, weather, date, year, etc, anything and everything that can be remembered is still valuable for bug hunts!

As frustrating as it sounds the best thing we can do is contact the dev and make them aware that items are disappearing otherwise they may think the problem is solved or very minor since only a few people are reporting.

UPDATE March 29 2016

So a week or so after my last posted update the dev/s saw our post here and got someone's save file to look at. From that file a quick patch was made and uploaded for everyone. We all were glad and hoped the problem was solved however.......

Its been a while since that patch and it seems like our collective problem of disappearing chests now extends to any placeable item ANYWHERE in the game world NOT just the farm. These include common mats, rare items (singing stones etc), and even buildable/ purchase-able items (lighting rods, tappers, honey, etc)

Early speculation and what I also initially thought of as "creep" damage from weeds [why fences were implemented into the game] or environmental damage (lighting, earthquake, new season) has since been debunked. Players still continue to have items disappear.

Another theory that maybe our pet cat/dog was the culprit is still up in the air. Consider that any time you arrive or load the farm map screen there is a random chance that our pet will spawn anywhere on screen and may or may not choose a tile location that is already occupied by an object you placed there.

UPDATE March 12, 2016

I have updated this portion of my first post in case this topic becomes pages long...

So far it seems like storage chests are NOT the only things to vanish from a player's farm. NOTE: this includes items inside houses or buildings caves etc as well as anything outside on the farm proper.

Other people on this forum and other forums have also spoken about other items disappearing. To help in figuring out what or how this is occuring please post here and indicate the condition of your farm (what items, plants are on it, farms/ house upgrades, weather condition the last time item was seen etc).

In short anything you can remember / write down will be valuable in finding the root cause. The more people post here the more common things we might all share and this could help id the culprit (if there is one)!

Thank you for reading and please continue posting vanishing items here, any and all information you can remember/ write down is helpful for the entire community!

Same happened to me. My character woke up and one the chests had disappeared. It also had my fish collection as well.
What was the weather like when it disappeared? Another person asked me if it was during a thunderstorm and indeed it was. Maybe there is a connection?

Well leaving your chest outside in real life wouldnt be too good either.

I never seen a chest dissapear when they are inside the house.

Great to hear I am not the only one that had this happen. I started to really question myself and thinking I accidentally destroyed it or something. Also yes true, in real life a random chest left outside will either be stolen or taken by the recycling or waste disposal people.

I apologize but I can not remember what the exact weather was like, I remember I went mining that day so it could have been raining, I dont think it was a thunder storm though. I do remember i went to bed really really late like barely made it home before 2am.

I also was thinking chests were meant to be inside but if some people are also losing chests there thats a sure sign something is up.

In any case, can I ask how many chests you guys have and your general layout? Maybe something is triggering this that we all have in common.

Including the one that I lost I have 6 chests outside all on the right side near the small pond, 2 recyclers and 6 ore smelters. Various candles, crops, several of the 2nd tier sprinklers, and several of the hand made scarecrows. Mushroom cave. No house upgrade, green house, or animals. I've only cleared the right side of the farm map. I do have a giant meteor near the pond.

full upgraded house, greenhouse, and barn. In house I had 3 chests and 5 furnaces (XXOXOOOO). Also had ~14 brew stands in there. May have been raining but cant be sure. My entire farm is clear of naturals grass, weeds, etc. It had no theme for what was in it, just random stuff including the materials totalling up to 4 iridium :(.

It was inside the house. One of three chests. The other two were fine. A sprinkler I had outside disappeared as well in the summer.

House upgraded to include a kitchen. One chicken coop, a furnace, a scarecrow, a silo and a bee hive next to the the house. Mushroom cave. A few crops in front of the house. Middle, east and north parts of farm cleaned. South and west still have trees and rocks.
I had 3 chests in my bedroom, all next to each other. The one that disappeared was between the two other chests. As I said above, I also lost a sprinkler.
If this is a bug, I hope it gets fixed soon because it's quite a serious one.
Thanks for all the replies. If anyone else reads this and also lost a storage chest or any other item, please post here and indicate what was lost and the situation/ condition of your farm at the time, house upgrades, item location, the weather etc. anything and everything that you can remember / write down might be helpful to the devs if they read this topic and decide to see how to remedy this!

I had this problem yesterday... Lost 3 chests (actually was all the chests I had) with literally all the things I was storing since I started to play. I went to sleep a day before the Spirit's Eve festival and in the morning the chests had been disappeared. The chests was inside the house next to the bedroom.
I can't remember well the weather the day before, but I think it was raining. My farm has the first house upgrade and the silo.

Sorry if I have grammar or syntax errors.

I've lost a chest, and a preserves jar. I actually saw the jar vanish, it made a pop noise and a poof and it was gone. It was making jelly at the time. Weather was sunny.

I had a chest full of mining materials outdoors on my farm. It disappeared the morning after the junimos cleared the glittering boulder from the mountain stream. I had just planted all of the fall crops available on the second year the day before as well. Weather was sunny and clear. I came back to my farm after getting a geode processed and was going to put away the copper ore I got from it. Guess I'll be needing to do a lot more mining than I'd planned this winter :/

With about 300 Kegs and 200~ Beehives this is a regular occurence. Every now and then one of them grows legs and decides to strike out to make it's own fortune during the night. And no, it's definitely not thunder storms causing it.

I'm not sure if this is in the same vein. But I was moving furniture in my house, I had JUST gotten the Singing Stone and was hitting it so I could get it in my inventory and move it someplace else. But it bounced off towards the wall and disappeared.... pretty sure I can't get that item again. Kinda pissed since it looked really awesome.
Caprontos Mar 15, 2016 @ 11:41am
Well I have a chest that is disappearing in my house at 1:00pm everytime I reload my save.. So there is 100% somehting making chests die for no reason.

I wonder if he put durability on chests like fences so they just die after some time (this chest is at lest 3 years old probably). If this is the case it really needs to not be a thing.. I am ok with the fences but not chests..

Can see the chest bits as its exploding infront of me, for no reason:

And it has this stuff in it:

Should I send the save to the dev and ask directly maybe for if its a bug?

What year are you guys on? Cause if it's happening in year 3 maybe it's actually durability.. :/
And do all of you use some kind of mod?
