Saved Game is Gone?
I had saved my game like any other time I play the game, where you complete a day and it saves for you. I had closed out my game, came back a few hours later, and when I go to the load game option it says there are no saved games! What do i do? Is my save corrupted? Can i recover it somehow? I'm asking because I got pretty far in my game, and I don't want to lose my progress.

I had this problem and it went away when I freed up space on my C: drive. Even though I keep steam apps on a different drive the save file reappeared when I cleaned the OS drive up. I was tragically low on space.

if it's not reading game files - check in the save folder for your character and make sure there's a SaveGameInfo file there
if not, you can just copy and paste one from a different character and you should be able to load it up
Im having a similar problem but my savegameinfo was already there. I replaced it with another one and it created a replica of the game file plz help.

I just got this issue maybe an hour ago and I was looking around to try fix it. Thankfully I ended up getting my save back- this might help for those who have their save file in %appdata% but its not working.
I just copied that file and backed it up in another folder just incase.
Went to control panel and uninstalled Stardew Valley and all its content.
Back to steam and installed it again- and it was back!

I found out that one of the mods was creating this problem for me :( I hope this helps someone.

GUYS, I SOLVED IT!!! In my save folder that was there but not being read, there was the normal player and save files, but there was also the same things with "_old" at the end of their names. This game automatically creates backups like Terraria! After backing up the folder, I removed the normal files and then renamed the "_old" files, removing that extension so they had the name of the previous files. I opened up the game, AND IT WORKED! The only data I lost was a single day, going from the beginning of Summer 8th back to that of the 7th. I hope this helps all of you regain your precious saves!

I can confirm this worked for my sister, who had this exact issue. Thanks a lot!

No problem, happy to help! It is a horrible thing to lose a save...

My save data is also not being found, even after trying most of the suggestions in this thread. This is frustrating considering I was really enjoying this game (this game is actually what provoked me into getting a Steam account, being a Harvest Moon fan), but after about 40 hours, no save data is being detected.

My files are still present in the proper save folder, which contains:
name_119931361
name_119931361_old
SaveGameInfo
SaveGameInfo_old

Deleting the normal files and renaming the old files as PokeMinecraft14 suggested did nothing.

Also of note is that I can't even create a new character. After starting a new character and the game attempts to save, it either freezes (when launched with Mod Manager SDVMM V1.7- which I think updated recently?) or just crashes if I create a new character via launching the game directly from Steam.

I'd hate to lose everything as I was nearly at the end of my first year. What's worse is that even if I wanted to, I can't start a new game at all. Would anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi there,

Maybe you can try below too, same issue happened to me yesterday and i tried below, worked for me:

1] open the save folder " appdata>Stardew Valley> Saves folder" there should be the character name folder..make sure there are 2 files inside that folder, the file name will end with "[characthername_{number]_STARDEWVALLEYSAVETMP" and 'SaveGameInfo_STARDEWVALLEYSAVETMP"

2] keep that folder open, start the game.

3] Before you click the "Load", rename both files name by deleting "_STARDEWVALLEYSAVETMP", so it should become:
"[characthername_{number]" and "SaveGameInfo" only, dont close the folder yet

4] In the game click "load", then you should be able to see the file now.

Good luck

Both my files aldready did not have STAEDEWVALLETSAVETMP what should I do?

this comment work with me after a lot of time i try to fig it. Everyone should try.

Your problem is worse than the one I had. I could still create new characters and everything and the game could read them. This might be a problem with the game itself. Sorry, but unfortunately I don't think I can help you here.

I also posted my problem to the Stardew Valley support topic on Chucklefish Forums but have yet to get a reply. It looks like I may just have to do a complete reinstall of everything if no other options come up. It's just worrying that I don't know what caused the problem since it may occur again even if I do get it working. I suppose I'll just have to backup my saves constantly...

Thanks for the reply, regardless though!

Edit: Oh, also worth noting is that I also tried a suggestion I read that spoke of replacing the possibly corrupt SaveGameInfo file with a fresh one downloaded off Chucklefish forums (normally you can just get fresh one by starting a new character, but I can't do that) and I still got "no save games found." I'm completely stumped.

Same thing happened to me. Tons of hours down the drain and I am not going back to being poor and not having the galaxy sword and iridium pickaxe. Sad day, guess I'm off to find a new game.

if you can't even make a new save file, maybe it is because your drivers are not updated to the update concernedape recommends?? For Windows you gotta have at least Windows 8. I had this problem too but after updating the problem went away.

Are your drivers up-to-date?
