No gifts at the Flower Dance?

I forgot to give anyone a flower before attending the Flower Dance, so when I saw the flower stall at the dance, I bought a few. However, no-one at the dance will accept my flowers as a gift, single or not. Right or left clicking with my daffodil and dandelion out just has me ask them to dance.

This may be working as intended, however the flower shop at the dance seems to suggest that giving flowers at the dance should be possible.
