C: > Users > YourUser (your account name on your computer) > AppData > Roaming > Stardew Valley > Saves > yourcharactername_numbers
Here you should see four files.
- yourcharactername_numbers
- yourcharactername_numbers_old
- SaveGameInfo
- SaveGameInfo_old.
Okay so before you do anything back up your files. Copy and paste them all to your documents or somewhere you can find them just in case this doesn't work, although it should.
First thing you want to do is open yourcharactername_numbers in notepad. There should be a ton of coding in there, and if so, your save file isn't corrupted thankfully. It's just the loading screen that's the issue.
If you only have one save file on Stardew Valley, you need to create a new character. Make one randomly, you won't be using this file for long. Once the new file has been created, exit the game. If you go back to AppData > Roaming > Stardew Valley > Saves. You should now see two save files. You have to copy the SaveGameInfo file from your new character, and delete the old SaveGameInfo file from your old character. Replace the SaveGameInfo file with the new file. Do NOT delete "savegameinfo_old", leave those files alone.
Launch Stardew Valley. When you press load you should see two files that look exactly the same. (Two "duplicates" of you new character file.) This is normal! Load the first file, and you will be playing on your save file. You want to play a whole day ingame and go to sleep in order to save the game. Exit the game, relaunch to go to the main menu, and then click load. You should see your save file has been restored on the menu. If you can access your save file again then you can delete the new save file you have created before as its not needed anymore.
If you have any concerns / questions, please ask me! I'd be happy to help, but I hope this method works.
Can you please answer a few questions for me? I'll try my best to help you but I just need to know a few things first. ^^
First of all, if you access AppData there should be a file called "Roaming". Can you please tell me which files show when you go into AppData? Also can you please tell me each stage you went into in order to reach the AppData file in the first place?
Also when your computer said "Stardew Valley has stopped working", did it just freeze and close? Did it crash? Can you still access your save file even if you go onto Load on the Main Menu?
After searching for solutions online for a while, I ended up finding my saves in appdata like you said (nothing was corrupted thankfully) but the game wasn't detecting them. Ended up moving my steam folder into a different drive, and now it recognizes my saves again. Very strange. I will definitely be backing up my saves often from now on as a precaution.
See the quoted message above (: Back up ALL files before you move or delete ANYTHING, just in case something gets messed up.
Sorry for the trouble, but can you explain a little more about what you mean by "copy the SaveGameInfo file from your new character, and delete the old SaveGameInfo file from your old character"? That's be great, thanks.
So when you go to AppData > Roaming > Stardew Valley > Saves you will two folders after you have created your new character. One of these files is your old save file, whereas one is the file of your new character. If you click the folder for the character you have just created, you should see a file called "SaveGameInfo". Copy this file. Then go back to your main save file which you are trying to fix. Delete the file "SaveGameInfo" in this folder. Here you would click "paste" in order to place the new SaveGameInfo file into your main save file folder. I hope this helps! But if not I can find a way to maybe upload a screenshot of what I mean.
