Dialogue box background missing

Whenever I speak to a character, buy from shops, etc., the text appears without any dialogue box background. It is just the dark text on the normal game screen, so it is incredibly difficult/impossible to read. Any tips or solutions?

This is happening to me as well. I noticed it happen after adding some aesthetic mods (aka non-SMAPI) but none had anything to do with the actual dialogue box. Did you recently download any portrait replacer mods or anything of that sort?

Okay so I think it has to do with the window size and resolution. Try messing around with that until the dialogue background shows up again. Hope this helps! (0 w 0)
