stuck on title screen

I cannot get past the stardew valley opening screen...music plays but the options for loading the game are appearing

The first thing I would try is pressing Alt+Enter at the title screen, which should toggle to windowed mode (note: only the left Alt key works for this, at least on my end). If the title screen options are visible in windowed mode, it's probably a resolution issue, which you should be able to fix via the in-game options menu.

If that doesn't work, I would try deleting the startup_preferences file and launching the game again. This file can be found in %appdata%/StardewValley on Windows or ~/.config/StardewValley on Linux/Mac. If you have trouble finding it, follow the directions in the link below to find the correct Stardew Valley folder.
