Golden Scythe doesn't cut wheat

Went to go harvest wheat with the golden scythe, doesn't work. The scythe works on normal grass but not wheat, unless its not intended to cut crops but i dont see why it wouldn't.

Edit: Turns out you can cut the wheat normally, but right clicking on the wheat wont work.

Same problem for Amaranth.

I noticed something off about it. I was getting close to the amaranth I was growing and clicking to swing my golden scythe, but if I was too close, the game told me I needed a scythe even though I had it selected. Never noticed this with the plain scythe.

EDIT: Have tested on another patch of amaranth. My experience: standing close enough to a tile of mature amaranth so that the green "plus" harvest icon is bright green will not allow you to swing the golden scythe to harvest it. This feels janky at the least.
