Left click requires multiple clicks

For the past week or two, I have noticed that when playing on my laptop with a wireless mouse, whenever I left click (like to use tools), it requires multiple clicks to register in the game. It doesn't do this on my desktop or with a wired mouse, only wireless.

I thought it was my mouse, so I went and bought a new one. And guess what? The problem is still there.

A normal, single click is fine to click "Load" and then the save game, and in all the menus and dialogue. It's only when using tools that it decides to be a butthole. It starts off needing at least two clicks when first launched, then gets steadily worse the longer I play, getting to where I'm wildly clicking just to chop down a tree or water my plants. It's getting near unplayable.

I have seen quite a few posts about this before, but they're all old and none of them have any answers whatsoever. Has anyone figured out what the heck is going on?
