Modding without SMAPI
Alright so I've seen people ask very similar questions, but nothing quite gets at the specific use case I'm thinking... so up front, I know how to use SMAPI, have modded my game with it before... but I recently got a little emulator handheld that can run SDV and I was wondering how hard it would be to just permanently bake the mods I like into the ported copy because the handheld can't run SMAPI as far as I can tell. (and in case it's important, let's just say I'm using Portmaster for the time being). It sounds like i can just drag and drop mods and let them overwrite the original files, but that sounds too easy... maybe there's a headache awaiting me i'm unaware of if I go that route.

Only basic .xnb replacement type mods would function without additional work. You'd really need to know what you're doing to bake in the additional stuff that SMAPI performs.

OK, so say I'm willing to do the frustrating work of learning something new here... where might I go to figure out what SMAPI is doing so I can try and implement it on my own?

smapi is open source so i imagine the source code and documentation are on github.

but just streaming the modded game from your pc to your handheld sounds like an easier solution.
Should be some additional links at the bottom of the SMAPI page: https://smapi.io/

for most perhaps, but I tend to use my handhelds when I'm not near my pc.

yeah you'll want to be able to remotely login to your PC and i imagine it'll be fairly taxing on mobile data, but you can probably set it up in an afternoon.
