Recommended Mods? & How?
I see a lot of chatter about Mods, and Ape's support of/for them. What are the best/most utilized mods, and how do I download them? I'm concerned for spam/malware so I'm looking for recommendations from multiple/trusted sources before I download anything. In particular I'd love a mod that focuses on character development/arc.

The mod manager I've always used is Vortex from Nexusmods:
https://www.nexusmods.com/about/vortex/

Which is used for the mods on this website:
https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley

Look in the top at Mods and select Top Files. It'll show you the mods that people have downloaded the most, so you know that these ones are worth it. Or if you want to look for a specific mod, you can go in look in Mod Categories. If you want character development, then there's Stardew Valley Expanded which adds a TON of new content for your character to deal with as well as many more NPCs.

For recommendations, I'm not really a hardcore modder so I don't use things like texture changes or anything like that, but I try to look for quality of life and adding things without breaking the vanilla feel. One mod I always use is UI Info Suite 2 which just gives you more information in the game, like showing the scarecrow's radius, it tells you what the daily luck is, what weather will happen tomorrow, etc...

Although I would wait a little while as the 1.6 update is coming soon which may stop mods from working as they also need to update.

Thanks, Sendri! Great advice. This is the kind of info I'm looking for. I'm planning to spend a good amount of time with 1.6 anyway, so when I'm ready to try mods, hopefully the good ones are updated.

Stardew valley expanded is the most popular mod by far. A lot of them just change the way the game looks but there are some that add new areas to the game, new stuff all kinds of mods. They are on nexus. This update was suppose to just be for making modding easier but turned into a giant content update as well. Will probably have to wait a while before using mods they will have to update them once the update is released.

Thanks! BTW, would you recommend Kynseed? My computer isn't good enough to run it, but someday I'll update my hardware.

YES!! Its a great game and the last update made it just that much better. That is what I have been playing while waiting for Stardew to update. Assuming by your name you are older not sure if you are old enough to know about the Fable games but Kynseed is made by the same dev.

the majority of the mods on NEXUS have been/are in process of being updated for 1.6
However, it should be noted that it is recommended NOT using VORTEX mod manager with the new updates of 1,6 and SMAPI,
Dont go over board with installing mods at the beginning and make sure to read all the instruction on SMAPI first, which is the first requirement for adding any mods.
I also recommend you check out the posts on each mod you want to look at and avoid any with lots of bug reports, or that have not been updated in the last year.

There are also detailed instructions on the wiki for the game modding.
As for my favorite mod, well I am never without the Tractor mod, which makes many things easier in the game.

Thanks Queen! Very good advice. I have a better understanding of how it works now.

That's great to hear. Thanks!

I think you should go with:
+ Visible fishes
+ Palette color mod
Not sure which way you are heading, since I can't be sure you wants gameplay change or something more aesthetic.

Otherwise, mods on Nexus are pretty safe. Can't hurt to run a Window Defenser scan either.
