Fishing

I cannot seem to catch any fish anymore. I have had 3 in game days of catching all the rubbish in the sea, lakes and rivers - cans, wood, broken glasses & CDs, oh and lots of algae and seeweed. I have a level 5, but can't afford more than the training rod at the moment, hopefully in a couple of in game days and harvesting I'll be able to upgrade. Would this likely be my problem?

Your daily Luck modifier influences this. With higher Luck you get less trash and with less or negative Luck, you get more. Check the fortune teller on the TV.

Go back to the bamboo pole he gave you. The training rod is just to get you through a couple of levels, but only allow common catches. Now that you are level 5 use the bamboo and catch any fish.

I have this problem but worse. I can't even get a hit at all. I get the exclamation point but no hit. I've tried all the tricks...holding the button down after casting...waiting and clicking and holding when I hear a sound...nothing. is this a bug? I caught one fish. now i have the bamboo pole and nothing. I lost my training pole. don't know what happened.

Are you playing with any mods?
In vanilla, the fishing minigame starts when you release left click on the mouse -very- shortly after you hear the noise and a exclamation appears over your character's head. There aren't any 'tricks' or strange combinations to get it to work better.

No mods. on pc. no not working. strange.
