Actually, Skull Cavern does have a bottom of sorts. But that is a programming Limitation, and QUITE difficult to reach even with mods, since the level is 10's of thousands deep.

I think the level is 22,097, or something like that. I have personally been down to lever 1700

Well now, that's interesting to know. I've heard that Skull Cavern is endless so I've never bothered to build/buy enough stairs beyond level 100.
I've also never gotten the Auto Petter. Do you know what floor is that found on? (and please, spoilers welcome!)

did a 400 floor run of skull cavern and I got it on floor got an auto petter on floor 100 in this run, but its random, theres probably some seed calculator that can determine these things but I did a trip to the wiki found that it was possible to get auto petters from this and golden mystery boxes and decided it was easier to farm 400 jade than farm golden mystery boxes.

and in a couple hours had enough auto petters for 6 coops filled with golden chickens.

Although internally they are in fact the same dungeon. The Skull cavern entrance drops you into level 121 of the mines and just lies about that in the corner of the screen. Technically it does have a bottom at level 77377 which has a fixed layout and a somewhat faster entrance somewhere else. It still generates floors below that if you teleport but there's no 'real' way to access those even with infinite time and resources.

The deepest level of Skull Cavern is 2147483527 (Because Skull Cavern is coded as floor 121 of the Mines) To reach that limit in one Stardew Valley day, the player would have to descend over 2 million floors per real-time second. (from the wiki)

Someone legit made it to 10,000 once by basically spending a whole (irl) day paused to make it a frame by frame turn based game :D

If this dungeon is physically carved into the rock Stardew does not take place on anything like an Earth type planet. Our rocks only go down 50km at the thickest points. Less than half that in most places.
