UIInfoSuite2
- Gives you tons of more UI information that is easily adjustable. Things like the daily luck, if you've watched the cooking show, an NPC's birthday, and even the radius of things like scarecrows and sprinklers are handled by the mod.
VisibleFish
- Adds sprites to fishable areas in the game to indicate which fish are currently present.
Content Patcher
- A general modding library which some mods rely on. Useful to have. Most mods that rely on it will have something like [CP] somewhere in the title or description.
CJBShowItemSellPrice
- One of a few CJB mods. This one just shows you the item sell price of any item in your inventory.
[CP] Seasonal Cute Characters
- This mod gives every NPC villager seasonal outfits. Really freshens up the Stardew experience imho.
[CP] DaisyNiko's Earthy Recolour
- One of many Stardew retextures. This is just the one I use, but you should play around and look at others if you're not a fan of this one!
Since you don't want anything overwhelming, I'd personally stay away from large expansion mods like Stardew Valley Expanded (even though it is a great mod, it just adds SO much more that you may find managing it all a bit challenging).
Edit: You can find all the mods I mentioned on Nexus mods (with the exception of the UIIinfoSuite 2. There's a github link on google with the most up to date version of that mod. Here's a direct link to the github for it.[github.com]
I should also say that as a Windows user, I am not sure how well the modding scene translates to Macs. So I apologize if anything I give you is not compatible!

Note to seasonal cute characters, the mod makes major changes to Elliott. If you want to stick close to his vanilla appearance then install this mod on top of Seasonal cute characters and let the files replace the original mod files.

Happy Birthday: lets you choose a day for your birthday. On that day, villagers can give you gifts and wish you a happy birthday (depending on your friendship level with them)
Tractor shed is similar to the horse stable, but it'll also plow any dirt it runs over. It costs a lot, like 100k? But it's a nice mid-game option.
Blast furnace (might have the name wrong? Industrial furnace?) is about as big as a horse shed, but cooks metal bars overnight for 5 coal. So you can smelt a lot at once, for less coal, but it'll take a day.
Smaller silos are nice; turns them into 2x3 like the warp obelisks. There's also a 3x3 fish pond mod, but I decided not to use it.
And, of course, any cosmetic mods you like. I gave Sam pink hair, and turned my silos into stacks of hay bales.
Omg the birthday one sounds so wholesome! Thanks :)
Thank you!
