Stardew Valley 2 - What would it be like?
Sometimes I have wondered what a direct sequel for this game would look like.

Aside from some QoL improvements, would it still be a farming sim? Would Pelican Town still be relevant? If not, where would it take place? Maybe in another undiscovered (and perhaps also unmentioned) location in the valley. Maybe it takes place in a distant future? In the original game there are so many interesting and undeveloped elements, like the conflict between the Ferngill Republic and the ruthless (as described in the game) Gotoro Empire.

So if a sequel were to take place in a distant future, maybe it could be about the aftermath of the war between the Ferngill Republic and the Gotoro Empire. Where you have to heal the entire land this time instead of just a farm, and through the same aspects that were present in the original game. I don't know, there are many possibilities here in terms of story.

If it ever happens, I do hope it will be made with a similar charming pixelated art style.

What do you think? :brownchicken:

it would never be able to meet the hype around it, so it might be better for there not to be a sequel. at most a remaster when it starts to not work anymore on computers from 2030 orso.

Indeed – HAUNTED CHOCOLATIER will feature one dynamic "missing" from Stardew, namely a shop dynamic. It's one I've always missed.

Also, it looks like it will emphasize the RPG/combat elements a little more, judging by the teaser trailers etc. It looks like you'll fight for ingredients rather than farm for ingredients.

To be honest, I'd like that shift in tone. One thing that always made me "sad" about the Wilderness farm, which focuses on combat, is that it doesn't come with a free slime hutch from the start (like Meadowlands and the chickens) and getting materials from slime ranching.

Having a more combat-heavy gameplay would make HC feel different from SDV while keeping the same dynamic. Also, if it's more Gothic in feel, it will have a slightly different ambiance.

Harvest Moon and Story of Season simply keep many elements and add some new features, but introduce a completely new village, usually with new characters. Having it being connected storywise could be interesting, but i hope its a completely different area, because after playng through the game like 10 times, there's not really anything to discover anymore (like even installing something like SVE makes the surrounding area more interesting, but the village itself doesn't have that much added, that it invites you to do all the exploration over again)

If FlashShifter and ConcernedApe wanted to combine what's currently vanilla Stardew with Stardew Valley Expanded (SVE), I think that would make for a pretty good 2.0. It introduces a number of new NPCs, fleshes out a lot of existing NPCs, adds a number of new areas, fish, crops, and so on meaning it would be a pretty substantial update for people who've only ever played vanilla. It'd be like all the free content updates to the vanilla game, rolled into one, and then some.

They could also do like the My Time and Trails series, where each game is set in the same game world, but in a different town or country. So, a sequel might take place in Grampleton. You could have some of the NPCs from Stardew make occasional cameos. It could be set in the recent past, when Grandpa was running the farm in Stardew, or it could be set around the same time as Stardew and maybe it could read Stardew save data to get your character and farm names and they would be sprinkled into conversation dialog every now and then.

But, one of the things I wouldn't mind seeing is a 3D Stardew. I'm thinking like Rune Factory 4. The camera's fixed, but the maps are all 3D environments so characters, NPCs, and mobs can move freely. They aren't bound to the chunky X,Y coordinates of the grid system used in Stardew.

Hm. Maybe have a greater goal of creating a large business/corporation? Hire and employ farmers and other staff?

If you take the Joja route in SVE, there's a little bit more to explore in town.

I know, but nothing that makes me feel like i play SDV for the first time again.

Game, set, match.
Hopefully the various little stories would be more dynamic, flowing down different paths based on player inputs and the random seed. Your spouse might decide she wants to start her own business, focus on community efforts, or help develop the farm. Other townspeople may get married and start families, or they might move away and sometimes come back to visit. It would always play out a little differently.

I will not take HC into consideration here since that hasn't been confirmed to be either a sequel or even a prequel. This is about a hypothetical sequel that has been confirmed to be a direct sequel to the original game, hence the name; Stardew Valley 2.

With that said, the business aspect is interesting and I also like the idea of weaving a potential sequel in the same way they did "My Time at Sandrock" for example. A game that takes place at the same time as "My Time at Portia" but in a completely different part of that world. But of course "My Time at Sandrock" was both bigger and better ^.^

Same region but 1-2 generations later. Everything is familiar but also completely different.

Or same valley but different part of it.

A great strategy game where you're building your farming empire and go on a trade war against JojaMart.
Although, if to be serious, I think that game has some really good potential to be a light version of the Sims game. The elements are already there. Just expand them a little, and mods will do the rest. But don't you listen to me! I'm always babbling about nonsense. :wwhprincess:

That would probably make for a better spinoff game than a sequel. Has some potential to it though. As you expand your farm, business owners like Marnie and Robin might have financial trouble. Then you can swoop in and buy up their business and decide to either be more ruthless than Joja by evicting them and turning their properties into more farm land or your own distribution center, or being more of a benevolent dictator who forgives the debt.

As a side note, a bit of head canon for me has always been that Linus was the founder of Joja but became disillusioned with what the company went on to do, so went to live the hermit life in the Valley as a kind of penance. This is why his special order quest is to clean up Joja trash, and also how he can afford to pay you money for any requests.
