You won't get a game ban from playing Stardew Valley if you use mods. It does not have Vac, or other third party anti-cheat. Plus it is a mainly single player focused game, and the multiplayer is not PvP. There is no danger in using mods, outside of maybe ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up something when modding. But that can happen in every game you try to mod, so that's not really special (and the mod loader for Stardew Valley makes it pretty easy to fix any issues, from what I've seen)

Yeah, it's a pure single player game that you can play with Multiplayer. Modding the game is completely fine

On the "Modding:Player Guide/Getting Started" page in Stardew Valley Wiki, there is an instruction linked under the headline of "Steam achievements". You can configure your Steam copy of Stardew Valley to launch with or without SMAPI.

If you plan to use content that will alter the actual content of the game, such as Stardew Valley Expanded, it is best to make another save and only launch it through SMAPI. Many mod pages in Nexus do clarify the details you need to know.
Why would you get a game ban for using mods? I think you are confusing this with VAC (Valve Anti Cheat system), where it isn't allowed to manipulate games in ways that gives the player an advantage towards the competition (other players, in other words). This only applies to a quite limited number of games though, where you are actively competing against other players - like Counter Strike 2 for example. It usually says on the store page for the game if it is a VAC enabled game as well. Anyway.

Stardew Valley is a single player game, with a well established modding community. If you want to mod, or even cheat - that is entirely up to you since the game really only affects you and your experience. If you need help with mods I have an easy to follow guide:

Happy Modding! :brownchicken:
As a general rule of thumb, if the game is single player first and foremost modding it is more-or-less always fine.

When playing Multiplayer make sure that if joining a server that the others agree with you using mods too. I had an acquaintance (friend of a friend) join my game and kind of ruining my save by being able to fish hundreds of fish in a single ingame day.
There are certain douchebag companies (hi, Capcom) who think modding is evil and should be banned, so OP isn't worried without reason. But for any sort of indie game that's basically a non-issue.

Nope, it won't affect your hours, achievements or anything when you use the method in the guide ChrillBill posted. Just make sure to start slowly to not overwhelm yourself. The size of some of those mods is insane (Also, please avoid the Yumii mod. It's been broken since last year and the mod creator seems to have abandoned it)

Just so you know, the developer of the game fully supports the use of mods and has played Stardew with mods himself several times as a guest in youtube videos.
