Mod managers apart from "Stardrop" (which was specifically created for this game) aren't recommended in general, because they don't work well with "SMAPI - Stardew Modding API" the required custom launcher.
If you still decide to use it, things might work in the beginning, or not, since curseforge tends to default to outdated mod versions, and even when it does work, you'll get more and more problems down the line.
Since curseforge also hides errors from the SMAPI log, people will have a hard time helping you with anything.
Most people get their mods via nexusmods or moddrop (I, personally, am using nexusmods), since manual modding is pretty easy. You just install SMAPI and get Content Patcher, after that you can put whatever mods you want into your steam mod folder.
