there are seasonal seeds that you can craft from foraged vegetables and fruits, There are also melons that you can only grow during the winter.

You can obtain winter seeds that grow into winter-specific forage, but the best thing to do is focus on pretty much anything else.

With your time spent on your crops reduced to near nothing, now is the best time to focus on everything else. Foraging, mining, upgrading your tools, building/upgrading things on your farm, fishing, and improving your relationships with everyone in town.

With upgraded tools, and possibly crafting plenty of sprinklers with the materials you mined, you can prepare yourself for a very productive and lucrative Spring Year 2.

There are winter seeds but you should spend winter doing everything else. Fishing, upgrading your farm&tools, crafting, going down the mine to stock up on ore etc.

Powdermelon seeds[stardewvalleywiki.com] can be grown during Winter, but those weren't added until 1.6. Before that, you had to rely on Winter seeds and Mixed seeds to grow anything during Winter. :celeste_mountain:

But yeah, you're much better off doing just about anything else during Winter to help you prepare for the Spring. My advice would be to visit the mines for obtaining iron and gold ore to upgrade your tools, and perhaps even the Skull Cavern in the desert for iridium if you've unlocked that already. :golde:

Whatever interests you most. You'll likely max them all out eventually.

I say the most important thing to focus on in your first winter is upgrading your tools to at least gold quality. And if you're big into farming as a main source of income, then getting the resources to craft lots of quality sprinklers is ideal. Then in the final days, plan for how much crop space you have, and focus on making money to buy a lot of seeds on the start of the second year.
i hoe every bit of dirt i can all around the town.

you can dig up Snow Yam. its the main reason i upgrade my hoe when i can.

I'd say the most important thing if you have animals is to make sure they have enough hay stored for the winter. A Silo can hold 240 pieces of hay, which is enough for 8 animals to last all winter + a day or two.
Also you need to put a radiator in in their coop/barn to keep them warm.

I usually earn around 60,000g from Winter seeds in the first year, starting with the 30 you get from completing the bundle at the Community Centre, then making seeds as I go through the season, foraging and replanting. It takes 8 days for them to grow, so there's plenty of time to do everything else others are suggesting in-between. I'm usually at level 10 Foraging by the time the third lot of Winter seeds are ready to be picked.

The reason I do this is to try and get the bus repaired by the 14th Summer, so I can get Starfruit from Sandy in the desert.
