Option to Sell/Rename/Change Pets

With so much that has been added to in the past nine years, I'm greatly surprised that this hasn't been done yet in the base game.

My friend and I are sharing a game session. We bought a pet that we accidentally forgot to name, so it set a default. We are now PERMANENTLY stuck with this, with no apparent way to change it. The wiki itself is rather vague on the issue[stardewvalleywiki.com], but I think the selling section is only for barn/coop animals not pets. It also explicitly states "Any name can be chosen for the pet the moment it is adopted, though its name cannot be changed after adopting it", which is pretty damn restrictive. I mean, come on! How hard is it to add some lines of code to make the name able to be changed? 🤔

Sooo... what now? Am I stuck with this pet's name forever, or is there something I can do to safely change its name, or remove it and get a new pet? Surely, someone thought of a mod or something?!? 🥺

pretty sure you can remove pet bowls (+ their respective pet) via Krobus, then get a new bowl from Robin and adopt a new pet

You can remove pets via accessing the sewer. There's an npc selling dust that can remove pet without consequences.

Keep in mind you still need to purchase the pet back if you want it have a new name.

You can buy butteryfly powder from Krobus for 20,000 gold that'll remove a pet permanently once you use it on them.

There's a pet renamer mod on Nexus, but I'm not sure if it works in multiplayer.

I once changed the name of my pet in the save file, that can be dangerous though

As other users have said, there is an option to remove a pet you no longer want. Sewers npc.

I'd actually rather do that. Anyone tested this to make sure there aren't any adverse effects to the save file?
