idk how ape did not win labor of love tbh
i grew up with this game and this game carried me through highschool on my darkest days. i remember watching a few youtubers play it when it came out and bought it myself later on when i was ready to play it.

the impact this game had on me was amazing and really helped my childhood, i really liked the fishing and mining in this game and if i was tired i could just farm and take care of the animals.

i am shocked tbh, the hand craftsmanship and polish in this game was everything i needed. a simple game with a big meaning.

i still remember the intro and it made me cry and also laugh since i knew this might be my new favorite game to relax with.

maybe next year ape with get the award he rightfully deserves after all these years but same time it does not matter since he made such a impact on so many people's lives i think that matters more than a stupid award that is always won by trolls or a popularity contest

How can a game prove it's a labor of love in it's first year? To me, labor of love implies being done as, well, a labor of love. Paid DLC or fixing a game that was released in a poor state is about money. Stardew has given every single update free.

usually it's well known long before release. most labors of love take a long time.
These awards are nothing when compared to the love and dedication of the community, i think C.A will appreciate that more than a title that is hidden away in the corner of the store page.

Snubbed, no way Elden Ring wins a labor of love award that makes no sense what labor of love is a game made by a company against a game updated and taken care of by a small indie dev.

Stardew totally deserved to win.

Then again I also see HD2 beat Palworld for better with friends which doesn't make much sense as that game spent most of the year inactive with controversies that made everyone quit it. Yet somehow is the top rated multi-player game with 100's of thousands of less players then single player games.

Looking at Steam Charts shows Stardew actually had its peak player count this year as well, many years after the games release.

Really expected it to win honestly.

But at the same time, it was truly a popularity contest considering any category that had Wukong had Wukong win in it. - even though Stardew has more active players then Wukong.
Crazy that this game didn't win. Instead a game which run terrible on launch, had one paid for update and still doesn't support ultrawide and I think above 60fps won. Mad.

It just shows the steam awards are rather pointless and people just vote for comedy again.

Souls fans are retarded, they even nominated the DLC for GOTY...
I know right.. Elden Ring probably won because of the new DLC coming out (a DLC that didn't even release 2024 by the way. it comes in 2025). plus stardew is an older game that gets more consistent updates

but oh well. stardew valley probably came in 2nd place for that award
People don't seem to understand that Labour of Love was initially really meant for indie devs rather than AAA games... Also ngl it doesn't help that Steam gives rewards for voting, so a lot of people will just end up voting for whatever just to get a reward.
salty souls players pissed elden didn't win goty so they made sure the dlc got SOMETHING LOL.

I think so to, but one thing. It's not just a virtual trophy displayed on their store page, they are also sent a real physical trophy to have in their office or at home. Which I think would have been nice for CA. But oh well. Aside from this, I am also very surprised that Baldurs Gate 3 didn't win a single award >.> Like, what in the world is happening...
I voted for No Man's Sky. This was my #2

Hello Games just releases so much free content... i weighed their 4+(?) releases to this game's 2(?) .

Both are far more deserving than a DLC. And all respect to From, they do some great fan service and love their games.

Its hard to diss any of these three devs and they should be the model for the industry, regardless of who won.

"This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.":

that's a very backwards definition. gacha games with gambling in them are typically the absolute champions of new post launch content.

when i hear labor of love i tend to think the opposite: it's a game where money isn't the primary motivator.
I am genuinely pd off at these game awards. I usually don’t blink or bat an eye towards these to even care about voting but once I seen Stardew valley up there I was like definitely the best choice for the category. I am actually very upset that Elden ring won
The awards are obviously weighted toward newer games of course and there are still some bugs like no sound setting to fix the LOUD ROOSTER crowing sfx or the strangely TOO LOUD SFX like the ghost deathrattle or witch cackle in the event hahah it is crazy with that sometimes :D

Elder Ring won? Really? Well, there's another reason for me to not buy it.

Looking forward to voting for Stardew Valley next year!

What are you talking about some of these replies are incredibly strange for some of those games that got wildly popular hahaha what is up with that! :D
I'm honestly disgusted that Elden Ring of all games won the award, especially with that DLC full of reused assets and retcons.
