Is the traveling merchant's stock really random?

I find it very unlikely that the stock is truly random. On my previous save, I got pufferfish when it was the last thing I needed for the glittering boulder, and now during fall year 1, when I had forgotten to produce blueberries for the greenhouse, the merchant sold me a blueberry.

If it was truly random (from the available stock, which does expand as time goes on), then I am extremely lucky. I actually got the blueberry from the very 1st trader I visited during fall.

It is random so you just got extremely lucky but usually is randomised when you start a new game. You can view the stock the travelling merchant will have via the stardew predictor.

it is not random it is randomly SEEDED. if you want an amazing game seed '7777777'

Yeah, it's based on the Seed you use. Use the same Seed in multiple games, and you'll see the same things show up on the same weeks.
