Honestly sound like very unfun mechanics. I dislike dogs and don't want to keep one on my farm and when my prefered playstyle has the consequence of randomly losing chickens, then i rather skip chickens completely instead of dealing with a dog.
Same for cats, i don't see what rats offer to the game other than being annoying and potentially wasting time for those who don't take a cat early on.
Though something you can do with them would definitely nice, but it would be better to have something that's not just cosmetical, like being able to train them, for example for a pet festival.
The turtle pets are modified cats. They bring an alternate list of fish items at max friendship.
