You might find tips to use it on a storm to get another storm on the next day as well, but that got fixed in 1.6, so don't waste your totems on that.
Maybe I'm wrong.
In older versions, you could extend natural thunderstorms an extra day by using a totem, but that was patched out in the same version green rain was added.
