Ok. couple options.
1. use the scythe for even worse damage.
2. get a weapon from a fishing chest or otherwise.
3. use staircases to get to a chest with a weapon in it.
4. reload the day when you lose stuff instead of dealing with it.
glancing you can fish a neptune's glaive or broken trident from fishing chests.
you can get ossified blade from mystery boxes, and you can get various weapons for 70 calico eggs from the desert during that event.
these aren't things someone who is worried about the rusted blade can do.
Other times, however, I was able to mine down many levels without ever fighting animals. Just play the coward game and avoid all fights, and bring plenty of healing food in case you get swarmed before you can run away. On floor 20 you'll get a new weapon, and you might get one earlier from a barrel or something. And yes your scythe can work both to open barrels and to swing at mobs, but it only does about one hit point of damage per swing so it's not a very good substitute for a weapon. But if it's all you've got...
Funny enough the mines can be ignored for as long as you want. Getting ores is more expensive and iridium is way harder to come by, but not impossible. Though, obviously i wouldn't recommend it outside of challenge runs
I've played through the game like 5-6 times and only got the Glaive once so far. Like you need around 500 chests to get it with a 95 % chance, which is like 3k+ fishes to catch to even find that many.
I'm never really fishing for money but rather for fun and to fill the collection, so for me it's more often than not just a coin toss at best if i ever get it in a playthrough or not.
Dude, I've reached fishing 10 on 3 characters and I have never gotten Neptune's glaive.
Wow! I'm honestly surprised. I've gotten a Neptune's Glaive like 90% of the times I've ever fished up to level 10. I consider it a totally normal part of every playthrough that sooner or later I'm going to get one. My only goal in some challenges is to hope I get it early enough to be useful in the mines.
If you don't get the Neptune's Glaive, surely you're at least getting the Trident? I don't like it as well, but it's definitely better than nothing.
He said he couldn't because he hadn't yet gotten into the mines to kill the 10 slime it takes to unlock the Guild.
you can also accidentally trash it or accidentally drop it on the floor. (e.g. when inventory is full but you still try to pick something up.)
