Hello, the reason for most Stardew Valley mods on Nexus is due to accessibility and monetization.

Although mods are free, modders earn a few income on that site.

yes
After installing SVE[www.nexusmods.com] make sure to start a new save for the best experience. :brownchicken:

Why bummer? Because you have to download mods from nexus.com instead of steam.com? Those are both websites, they do the same exact thing.

The modding Website is nexusmods.com.

Correct. There is also another source of mods if one wishes to bypass the account requirement that you otherwise need on Nexus.
Stardew ModDrop[www.moddrop.com]

Note that ModDrop doesn't offer as much as Nexus though :brownchicken:
Yup and it is just as easy as steam workshop.
Still disappointing they never added Workshop support after all these years. If they did I would have bought the steam version in addition to the switch version.

And you have to do a bunch of fiddling around with the files or external programs rather than just click "subscribe" on a list.

Yeah and then you eventually crawl into the Steam forums and complain about why nothing works, because Steam allows you to "just" click subscribe and it adds the mod without telling you anything about mod dependencies.

Also we're using SMAPI on SDV, you literally just copy everything over into the modfolder and that's it. It even tells you what doesn't work or what is outdated, while Workshoped games rather tend to simply crash without any explanation.

with Nexxus you get notification when you log in of any mods you use that need to be updated, and there have been lots of frequent updates to both SMAPI and the mods, I really dont think the Workshop would be able to provide the same level of information we get on Nexxus
Doing devil advocate, I say both Nexus and Steam Workshop has pros and cons.

In the end, CA asked the community about it and a majority agreed on using Nexus. All of this is due to platforms-free modding, monetization. Probably more on the list.

So yeah, think why modding community choose this. Keep your mind open.
I do kinda have to agree that having to use an external site in 2025 is kinda lame.

It is so much easier and QoL to just click subscribe on the steam workshop over having to deal with the flavor of the month Nexus BS they feel like pulling that day.

Not to mention the download speeds on Nexus are atrocious.
