Although mods are free, modders earn a few income on that site.
Stardew ModDrop[www.moddrop.com]
Note that ModDrop doesn't offer as much as Nexus though
Yeah and then you eventually crawl into the Steam forums and complain about why nothing works, because Steam allows you to "just" click subscribe and it adds the mod without telling you anything about mod dependencies.
Also we're using SMAPI on SDV, you literally just copy everything over into the modfolder and that's it. It even tells you what doesn't work or what is outdated, while Workshoped games rather tend to simply crash without any explanation.
In the end, CA asked the community about it and a majority agreed on using Nexus. All of this is due to platforms-free modding, monetization. Probably more on the list.
So yeah, think why modding community choose this. Keep your mind open.
It is so much easier and QoL to just click subscribe on the steam workshop over having to deal with the flavor of the month Nexus BS they feel like pulling that day.
Not to mention the download speeds on Nexus are atrocious.
