I will say, though, that she's a very immature individual. She often acts like a bratty teen, and that's not someone I want a deeper relationship with. Not hate so much as... disinterest. Despite canonically being in her twenties, she very much acts underage, which is not attractive.
the one who betrays you is leah. or at least she has an EX.
And the story of each character is quite shallow, so most of the lore is pretty much up to your imagination (obviously they don't do anything outside of their programming, but if that's the only thing you're looking at, then there's no reason to have any feelings towards them)
For example, I really can't stand Haley. She reminds me of girls i've known who were shallow, selfish, and mean. I don't buy her story of somehow going from hating her small town to suddenly falling in love with the player enough to want to become a farm wife. So I project onto her some terrible motives, and could easily make up stories about how rotten she really is behind the fake behaviors. But there are other people who see her story as a beautiful arc of someone growing as a person and becoming more aware and grateful in general, and softening her outlook, and finding joy in simpler things. There's no real motivation to believe either story other than one's personal bias.
My guess is that the Abigail hater is someone who knew of a pretty gamer girl who cheated, and just projects that behavior onto Abigail as well. My advice is to ignore them and make up the story about her that makes your own mind happy.
(Ask me someday about why I absolutely love Pam, while most people hate her the most! It's all about the backstory you tell yourself.)
As for cheating, most the spouses give that vibe, as many keep their old routines and still sit with their NPC-counter-parts. In my most recent game, I married Leah and she is still always sidled up with Elliot.
In the game where I married Abigail, she was awfully cozy with Sebastian, meeting at the riverside at night and ♥♥♥♥.
poor Pierre. I'd link it but it would get filtered for profanity.
But yeah, it mostly boils down to projection. It's part of why we all have preferences and quirks at all. Kinda like while Penny is nice and all, I will never date her in this game because I despise children. :D
Speaking of reading too much into it. (I hope you don't think I'm picking on you too hard here, not my intention) This is honestly true with all the characters. They still hang out with the ones they're matched up with prior. Why? Because the programming puts them in those spots and Ape didn't write new programming for every character post-marriage. Haley still hangs out with Alex. Abigail still hangs out with Sam and Seb, etc. It's not personal. There's nothing more to it than that's what the base programming is and the marriage event doesn't change it all =)
It's easy for us to want to RP and even overanalyze, but it's a computer game. It's a fairly simple one. Fun, no doubt, but without the kind of complexity that it would have taken an army of programmers and play testers to get right. Best example I can think of: a certain pair of purple shorts. Just have fun with it!
Oh no. I wasn't trying to say that you were implying that, just inferring what people who hate Abigail are probably thinking - young teenagers or adults who deal with jealousy watching their girlfriend/boyfriend hangout with someone of the opposite sex. I think we all went through those motions in our life at some point, and I think some people are dragging that into the game. Heh.
You're right. They all end up hanging out with their friends, even to some degree after marriage, but I'm just trying to put myself in the minds of the people who are hating on Abigail. I can't really figure out what other reason one could have unless they are playing with mods that drastically change Abigail's personality and function. *shrugs*
that's all the candidates; it's not a fleshed out part of the game
