Boulder XP
Can someone with a mod that shows XP as it's earned please tell me how much XP (if any) you get for mining boulders on the farm vs. boulders in the mines?

The wiki is unclear. I want to know if it's worth it to mine them for xp, or only worth it to mine if I want their stones.

They don't give any xp.

Depends which boulders you mean. There are two types, the regular ones that award 0 XP unless you're lucky and get a piece of ore or coal from it, then there are the lighter grey coloured ones that award 3XP, which is the same as the small boulders on the farm iirc.

edit: to clarify, the lighter grey boulders are the ones that take two hits to break with the default axe.

"Boulders are oversized rocks, occupying 4 tiles, found on The Farm and in The Mines. They are one of the main sources of stone in the game. However, no Mining Experience points are gained by destroying boulders." - wiki

Thank you!

Gosh, that's so weird that you get no xp from boulders. You would think they should give a LOT of xp. But at least they do give a generous amount of rock.

Mining Exp is weird in general. The way the game differentiates between farm rocks and cave rocks doesn't make intuitive sense either.

It makes sense to not give xp for every single rock in the mine, you'd be at level 10 before hitting floor 50 if they did. That's why only the slightly harder to break rocks (at least until you upgrade the pickaxe once) award xp, except in cases where you get random ore/coal, in which case you get 1-2xp even from a regular rock.

On the farm, ALL rocks award xp except for the big boulders.

Radiosity, I believe the wiki says that you do get xp from rocks in the mine that provide stone. You just don't get xp for rocks that break and give nothing.

Maybe you would consider stone to be an ore. I usually think of those light gray rocks as "Rock Ore Nodes", because they are affected by the perk that gives you extra ores.

Sure, there are reasons why the system is the way it is. But those reasons don't change the fact that the system is unintuitive and rather nonsensical with how it distributes Experience.

Which isn't much of a problem, but it's still something worth pointing out.

No, Radiosity is correct. Only the grey stone that needs 2 hits with the default pickaxe gives experience when it drops nothing but stone, anything that drops 1 stone and nothing else will give no experience.

Aw, geeze. I could have sworn I read that in the wiki. Just another point about how unintuitive it is, eh Ryika? But I double checked and you both are right.

I really swear i did see it before. Maybe it changed recently? But no, I'd better not check in case it can be proved that it has not ever changed. Chalk it up to the mandela effect.

I have UI Info Suite, which shows exactly when you're awarded XP for something. Can confirm that just getting stone does NOT give XP. So yeah, as Ryika said :)
