All the single guys
Hey folks, I recently started playing, and on my third try I feel I've gotten off to a non-dismal start! I'm glad I checked in with some guides before giving up on the game...it seemed really high-pressure until I read that there's really no time limit.

Anyhow, I see there's dating & marriage in this game, and looking at the available bachelors, I find...they aren't that attractive! We've got a drunk, a jock, a rather dim gamer, an emo dude, a freespirited beach drifter who kinda looks like Fabio, and a doctor whose clinic isn't doing too well. Shane is obvious trouble, so I'm inclined to steer clear, even as that part of me that likes a challenge wants to turn him around! But I've seen how attempts to fix people typically work out so I'm gonna give that a wide berth.

Well I'm not looking for "this is definitely the best guy to marry", but just if any of these things are scripted to end in heartbreak, I'd like to know ahead of time. I'm playing this game to escape that kind of stuff.

Thanks!

None of them will end with heartbreak. Storywise I do think that Alex has the most developed arc out of the bachelors. You learn a great deal about his past, why he is the way he is and he takes the marriage very seriously.

You mention Shane and in my experience he is largely seen as a charity case with the illusion that marriage is going to "save" him. I like having him as a friend but there are too many holes and questions when it comes to his story arc in my opinion. He wasn't even originally intended to be a marriage candidate which I think shows. Sam and Sebastian are cute but they feel very immature (just like Abigail).

Harvey and Elliott are sweet with cute heart events, decent story arcs and for me much better choices than Sam, Seb and Shane. :brownchicken:

When you do marry in this game the spouse room will be furnished by the spouse. They have their own little personal room in your house. Shane will still turn it into a pigsty, with alcohol laying around and yadda yadda despite his story arc.

I vote for Elliott. Harvey if you want another down to earth mature guy. Seb, Sam and Alex feel immature.

But yeah, female counterparts are strictly speaking more physically attractive if there would be an attractive scale and I'm not even into women. I see this a lot in these life/farming sim games that were (mostly) designed by (straight) male devs. Even if it's unintentional.

I married Harvey on my first file, and I got tired of him lol. All he talks about is health, and I just got tired.

One of the secrets says that he's weak, and after I read that I think back and I can't think otherwise. Poor guy.

Now I'm going for Elliott. He seems mature, and he's handsome enough.

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful! And I agree about the women generally being more appealing than the men in this game. Kind of annoying. I think I'll go for Alex with this playthrough.

Alex was my first choice in my first playthrough way back and as stated by jcorax he has a lot more character development. He has his own back story which is somewhat saddening and explains why he can not be some people's first choice when they first play. I'd suggest you get to know all the characters before you actually marry one of them. Many people shift from Sebastian or Alex when they get Sam's last scene.

Not sure why you quoted my post but... I've had them all... Not at once, but I know them pretty darn well after almost 2000 hours in this game :D

I went with Elliott and I have no complaints. He's sweet, low drama, and doesn't have anything spectacularly wrong with him. Like you mention, some of the other candidates are obvious trouble. Elliott's just a guy who wants to work on his book and enjoy life.

Also he has fabulous hair.

so like at the spring dance festival the male and female singles pair off.

Leah Elliott
Maru Harvey
Emily Shane
Haley Alex
Penny Sam
Abigail Sebastian

NOw you want to write people off, 1.) you can date the same sex so you could date one of the female singles instead.

but yeah you gotta excuse their flaws if you want a relationship, but Sam is probably the most normal.

Dating one of the females would mean I'm dating someone of a different sex, actually. :-)

I might start spending a little more time chatting to people and giving gifts after the first year. I'm still getting used to the farming routine, and the foraging routine, and the mining/adventuring routine, and the fishing routine, and the.... For a game that puts no pressure on you, this game sure puts a lot of pressure on you! (Or perhaps I am the one inferring the pressure from having all this dang stuff to do.)
