"missing executable"

when i try to start the game it says "An error occured while updating Stardew Valley (missing executable)" ive tried multiple things to fix it but nothings working, can someone help?

I know you've said you've "tried multiple things" but was verifying your game files one of them? Doing so generally fixes most issues, at least from my experience.

i have twice and i still get the message

Interesting. My best guess on a solution would be to uninstall and reinstall the game, maybe even reboot your computer in between. Make a backup of your save file just in case, but your progress should be saved on the Steam Cloud.

EDIT: Save files are in %appdata%/StardewValley/Saves, in case you didn't know. "Browse Local Files" though Steam doesn't take you to them.

what are you pc specks? are you using the newer 64bit version of the game or the Compatible 32bit version, which is under the Beta tab on Steam page for game.
The 64bit version wont run unless you install dotnet. 5.0 or later

- Delete the startup_preferences folder in %AppData%/StardewValley
- Go into your Steam games folder and delete the game folder (This needs to be done manually). Then let steam redownload this game again.

i have 64bit and use the default version, i installed dotnet and its still not working

My guess is you have an Anti-Virus software that's overly-zealous and preventing the executable from installing from Steam. If that's the case, I'd recommend manually adding the Stardew Valley folder to the exceptions list, or temporarily disabling the Anti Virus program, installing Stardew Valley, and re-enabling your AV program once the install is complete.

Did you check if your game folder contains a StardewValley.exe?

If you start the game directly via the EXE you will get no steam archievments. So make sure to get it working through steam. Maybe check if you used mods in the past and changed the start options in steam.

For example mine are: "E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command%
