Mutant Carp odds?
I've been fishing in the sewers for about 3 days now trying to get the Mutant Carp (bait and all) and I've only ever been getting algae and carp. How rare is this damn fish? Is there certain criteria that have to be met? Do I need to cast my line all the way? Do I need to stand in a certain position or fish in a certain spot?

I only caught it three or four times, sometimes it can take quite a few tries and sometimes I get it after just a few other fish.

There's a lure that makes rare fish more likely to bite but you can't reliably get it because it's a random drop, there's no recipe for it.

Sadly I wouldn't say 3 days of non stop fishing is "a few tries". My Fishing level is literally maxed out and I'm using an iridium rod along with bait. I even checked the Fortune Teller show the same day and they claim the spirits are "very happy today!" (das some grade A BS). If the odds are this low even with luck on my side and that's not even accounting trying to catch the damn thing, then I really see no point catching a fish that may as well not even exist.

With RNG there's always the possibility of bad luck even if the in-game luck is on your side, but I've got to admit three days of nonstop fishing should have yielded results. Last time I tried, I got it after maybe two minutes of fishing.

Maybe you're fishing in a wrong spot? Not casting far enough?

That's what I was thinking too, there's an area with 4 tiles that stand out so I figured I probably have to be around there to spawn it but clearly it hasn't shown anything. I've also cast my line far (even til it says max) plenty of times and still reeled in algae, carp and the occasional trash. I've tried looking it up and it doesn't specify any specific spots or cast distances.

I'm about to round the sixth day trying to catch this mf but I might just bite the bullet with this one cause there are a lot of other (more productive) things I could be doing than trying to catch sewage ridden fish.

Edit: All my bait is gone LMAO.

Normally the further you cast from land the better your odds of getting rare fish. I would stand at the extreme edge of that little area with the four tiles, just under the four tiles.

Aside from that, maybe getting your Fishing to 15 so you get the extra casting distance, but... that's just about all you can do.
