Haymaker - useful or useless? (spoilers)
The new Forge at the volcano lets you enchant your weapons with 1 of 5 enchantments.

One of them, Bug Killer, gives double damage against enemies you can usually kill in one hit anyways... Not sure why anyone would ever want this.

The other 3 heal you, let you deal/deflect more damage, and deal more damage against a certain type of enemies. Fairly useful.

The final perk, however, has no combat utility whatsoever. Its only use is to cut weeds and get a bit more fiber and some hay from it. I'm wondering... Is this useful enough to bother getting?

Like... We can now farm fiber on the farm with fiber seeds. Which must be cut with the scythe. The scythe, for whatever reason, can't get the new enchantments. So you can't get extra fiber from fiber seeds this way.

The volcano and Skull Caverns don't seem to have any grass/weeds to cut. Weeds in the forest, train station and up by the playground regrow so slowly they're barely worth mentioning.

The only places you'd really use this enchantment are floors 1-30, floors 90-110, and in the sewer dungeon, I guess? Oh, and the RARE prehistoric floors of the Skull Caverns, I think. Is there some other location I'm forgetting that has tons of weeds?

Like, I know you can get an alternate weapon for this perk. It's not like you HAVE to put it on your Galaxy Sword or whatever your weapon of choice is. You could enchant a rusty sword with it, or something. It just seems like this enchantment was specifically made for scythes, but those can't be enchanted. Bizarre. Maybe I'm missing something? Has anyone tried using it?

At least when you use a bug killer weapon you can kill the armored bug in the skull cave

I think it's pretty useless. I have the one that kills mummies.

I guess it's sort of useful if you don't want to buy hay from Marnie and want to be frugal as hell. Especially having lots of barn or coop animals can lead to buy more hay from Marnie which is expensive. It also gives you lot fiber with a swing but the problem is that there's not a lot of fiber area unless there's debris. That's the only reason I can find it for being useful

ya i dont understand either, why give the sword an enchantment to cut hay and why is that enchantment considered a combat enchantment?

i also still dont understand why the scythe was left out of the iridium upgrades and now its left out of the enchantments, just seems like an odd design decision on the part of this tool.

-------------------

the enchantment haymaker is useful, but it should not be a "combat enchantment" as it makes zero sense to be in that category and it should be on the scythe instead, not a weapon, also i still think the scythe should have been given an iridium upgrade.

I got haymaker on my Insect Head, use it only when sewer hunting.

Now that I think about it, forging is a lategame feature, most player at that stage could probably just buy hay and it wont event dent their wallet. So I guess it's neat, but pretty useless for lategame.

Maybe if they combine it with other niche abilities it'll be worth it, probably haymaker + double bug meat or something idk.

Not sure why this would even be useful when you can just get the golden scythe for the extra that gives. Not like you need that much extra hay normally, and fibre is all over the place in any case.

And as estehmanis said, at that point in the game you're probably shipping ancient fruit/star fruit wines and the like, and money is a joke.

Does the golden scythe work on weeds? I figured it was just on wheat.

And I'm definitely low on fiber on my current file. Need that tree fertilizer by the boatload!
