workbench QOL improvement
i really like the new workbench and that its able to access inventory of adjacent chests.

but would it be possible to improve it a bit and have it access all directly and indirectly connected chests?

for example if you have 5 chests with different materials placed in a row next to each other, and then put the workbench adjacent to one of the chests, that it connects to all of those 5 chests?

its ok if there is a small limit to it like that it can only connect to 5 chests total that way, but it would be a bit of a QOL change in terms of how you can lay out your inventories and the workbench.

Yeah... With how I lay out my chests, it's pretty useless. I usually arrange mine in a circle, so...
Winter, Mines, Fishing, Supplies, Spring, Summer, Fall, Desert, and now Island...

It's even worse because the workbench doesn't say your amounts left. Like, if I only have 50 stone left, I'd rather save it than use the last of it for a preserve jar...

thats a pretty good idea too. if you hover over a recipe, it could show you a tooltip of how much of the resources required you have in those chests.

i wouldnt call the workbench useless, but the optimal way to lay it out atm is to plant 8 chests around it in a circle (you could do 9 but you need at least 1 space to access it). but that makes the chests a little bit anoying to access since you have to kindof walk around the whole thing.

so there would be two ways to QOL improve the workbench on top of my head

- making the workbench connect to chests through other chests if theyre all planted adjacent to each other. there could be a limit of 8 chests total that a workbench can connect to in this way to keep if from causing problems because someone might plant his whole farm full of chests just to break the game.
- making the workbench connect to every chest in the same building. like say you have all your chests in a shed and can plant down the workbench anywhere and it will connect to all the chests in the shed.

but having a tooltip show the total amount of relevant resources you have for the recipe is totally something id add to the list.

Yeah, the layout is my main problem with it... in the future, maybe I'll figure out a configuration that works for me. But I like symmetry and am struggling to think of how to divide it...

Like, if I did Winter/Fall/Desert in a 3 chest column, and Spring/Summer/Island in another 3 chest column, none of those really have crafting supplies in them... So I could go a T-shaped Mining/General Supplies/Fishing in the center, I guess, but nothing in my Fishing chest really uses crafting supplies. I craft fertilizer without the crafting bench, so I don't accidentally turn a fish I need for a gift/quest into fertilizer... Stuff like trash and algae aren't used in crafting recipes...

I dunno. I'll think of something. But the lack of symmetry annoys me.

How about making a workbench floor marker where chests put onto those would be linked to the workshop ?

I wonder if junimo chests work with it. I don't have any yet so I can't test it.
