SO MANY TREES!!!
I've chopped so many trees. No matter what, next season the patch will be bigger than ever. I finally snapped and started chopping all the trees. I got through 1 of the bigger patches and a small one. Why are there so many trees???

Facts, I needed to build a tree farm in the desert because there wasn't enough on the valley alone. lol

a forest will always grow and spread faster on your farm though, at least that's what I could observe in all my runs

You can use bombs on the trees ... just sayin'

But as the others have pointed out, you do in fact need lots and lots of wood. Personally, I typically leave about a quarter of my farm as a wood lot, just letting the trees grow and then periodically cutting them back.

My friends and I recently found out you can take down trees with bombs! It's best used in an area that's dense with trees but it saves a ton of energy and time.
Tree spread by 7x7 (3 for each direction from the middle, but a square).

If you want to effectively "optimize" harvesting process, place some cheap floors like stone or wood cost. Make a barrier and slowly crawl to chop them all.

Or just bomb them. Whatever suits your boat.

I plant on the desert, on the quary and on the bath house area. And still more to make coal, or else I will need to go to the mines or the vulcan just to grab more coal. Fishes are way better when smoked :)

If you really don't like trees dropping seeds everywhere and keep growing back, they will only do this on the farm. For controlled tree growing where they won't drop seeds, some good places to do this is the desert and quarry. You can also plant trees alongside the edge of the river in the forest area. :terraria:
You can always just blow them up with some bombs
trees drop saplings/seeds all the time, and if you pick them all up, you wont get new trees growing on your farm. However in the forest the chopped down trees will respawn after several days unless you leave the tree stumps there.
Pave your farm with refined quartz walkways to keep the trees under control. You can also use the pick to pull up seeds that haven't sprouted yet.
