Sea Jelly.
I am lvl 12 fishing, and I basically never, ever get trash/seaweed, etc. It's only fish. I am doing everything i can think of to get sea jelly but it just isn't happening. I've tried every rod, with and without bait. I have spent all of this season just fishing and still can't get sea jelly. But cave/river jelly i've gotten 3 each. Please dear god tell me theres a way.

You catch sea jelly when it replaces a trash item, so if you're specifically trying for sea jelly you need to maximize your trash catching. Use the training rod on the beach in summer, after you catch a piece of trash, switch to your regular rod and catch a single fish so it advances the trash item queue, then go back to the training rod.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but I find that if I cast really close to the shore, I'm more likely to get things like seaweed and other junk. And for whatever reason, I always have good luck if I'm just a little to the right of Willy's shop, on the beach, where Sam and Vincent play in the summer, casting just barely far enough to qualify as being in the water.

Build three fish ponds. Put a midnight carp in one (river jelly), a flounder (sea jelly), and a lava eel (cave jelly) in the other two. Occasionally you'll get the jellies instead of roe or other fish pond drops.
You can catch jelly in the mines (the pools of water that are on certain levels) as well as anywhere else with water, in case you weren't aware

There are 3 different jellies, Cave, River, and Sea. Each of them are only in the locations of the same name.
