how to gift a book

I am new to steam and new to stardew valley, but loving it! I had two copies of this book so I wanted to gift it, but am struggling. I have accidentally read woody's secret 3 times please help me understand how I am supposed to gift it to Robin. I have tried left clicking (nothing happens), pressing C (nothing happens), and right clicking (I read it even if the gift icon is showing). I am on a mac if that impacts things.

Make sure that the book is highlighted on your bar (which should show it waving above your hands) and then walk up to Robin and talk to her .. it should work the same as giving anyone a gift. Good luck! =)

according to the wiki, yes. never tried

Hold the books in your characters hands , go to the person you want to gift, right click. Then click yes

Congratulations now you have gifted them a book

Any other tips? I held the book over my head (it was for sure selected), walked over to Robin and tried to talk to her / right click. The gift icon even shows up and still ... I read it instead of gifting. I have moved on, but would love to know what is happening lol

Are you trying to give it to her while she is working on a building on your farm?
