Playing local (split-screen) co-op with 2 Steam controllers
Hello,

I would like to play with my girlfriend, but we have 2 steam controllers. Can you help me how to set up the controls/controllers to able to play the game in local (split-screen mode)?

Thank you!

I had to do an extra step:
Right click on the game --> properties --> controller tab --> and set to "enable steam input", now we can play together. :)

This post is a few days old, so not sure if you've already solved this or not but figured I would post this anyway for anyone else interested. :brownchicken:

To do local co-op, you first need to build another house on your farm. You can have up to 3 extra houses. To get a house, go to Robin's Shop and get her to build the additional farm house. There are 3 different designs to choose from, each costs 100g and different materials depending on which design is chosen. 10 stone for a stone cabin, 5 wood and 10 fiber for a plank cabin, and 10 wood for a log cabin.

After you've chosen a spot and the house was built, to do multiplayer;

Load the save file (If you're doing it from a single player file, otherwise on the Main Menu create a new file from the Co-op Section. Doing it that way allows for both split-screen as well as remote/online)
Connect Controllers to your PC
Open the In-Game Menu and go to Options
Scroll down to Multiplayer and select Start Local Co-op
Press the Start button on the extra controllers

Thank you for your help, my problem seems like the 2 controllers are detected as 1 input. Is that possible? We can controll 1 character with 2 controllers, and she can't join to the game as a second character with the second controller. (Should we change the layout of the second controller?)

Try again but with only one controller connected at a time;

Before the game is launched, connect the first controller and use it to set up the Local Co-op from the menu.

Once you've done that and Co-op is enabled, connect the second controller and press start.

If it still doesn't work and the controllers are connected using Bluetooth, try using USB cables instead if possible.

I found myself stuck the same way with a single Steam Link and multiple Steam Controllers and the fixes above didn't work. It's strange, the same configuration works fine with other multi-player games but for this, all controllers attached to the Link behave as if they're the same device.

Connecting in from two different devices (in this case one Link, one tablet) works around it. But that isn't really ideal...

After connecting to the game it might be worth disconnecting P1 once and reconnecting it (and repeat until it works) and after that connecting P2. That got rid of multiple problems we had with PS and Switch controllers. Might work for other devices as well. (Obviously make sure, that Steam detects the controllers properly and seperately outside of the game)

This worked for me! After I enabled Steam Input, I just restarted Stardew and it recognized P1/host controller input (as well as keyboard/mouse).

Thank you!!
