The issue is adding mods mid playthrough isnt recommended for many reasons, while a bunch are fine, newer players could inadvertently add a mod that breaks their save.

That's why SMAPI comes with a save backup mod by default. The first thing you should always use mods for is a robust rollback system.

Stardew's pretty hard to screw up by design though, due to only saving progress overnight while nothing is happening. If you install a bad mod just quit without finishing the day.

I'd say quality of life improvement mods, or subtle change mods like portrait or visual stuff or rebalancing is probably fine for a first playthrough.

I'd save any huge mods like Expanded or extra NPCs, etc. for a second playthrough. Obviously you can play however you like, but since you asked for a recommendation, that's my 2 cents.

The tractor mod is great but don't unless you want to get rich really fast, the tractor can be used to do most of the thing you need to do on foot so you don't get tired, you don't need to upgrade your tools and you don't need to fill up the can if there is water in the can it will work.

That depends a little how you configure the tractor mod. It can work like a regular tractor would, making farming a bit easier. Or it can become a terminator, making you rich super fast (both in terms of money and resources) while also destroying everything around it. :QilinCool:

The tractor is literally an anime mining mecha. Install tractor + automate if you want to never touch the game's vanilla economy even a little bit. Probably simpler to just debug command yourself <maxno> gold on day one!

Its even worse when you realise it by default makes you immune to damage and has a call to me button...skull caverns has never been easier...had to make a point of removing that "feature" and making it farm only after resetting the day. Can be a good goal for people though as unlike veterans they dont get it till late...meanwhile my shiny tractor sitting on my farm at spring 25...

Removing the challenge from a game (any game) on your first playthrough is almost always a really bad idea, leading to much much lower engagement. Humans like things more if there's a little bit of work/struggle involved in getting them.

It's kinda like hyperinflation, but for dopamine. If you go too hard on making everything convenient that number going up loses its mojo.
