Oh Visible Fish is nice. Gotta love some diegetic UI.
No wtf why would you

for staying as vanilla as possible I'd recommend Calm Colour Valley if you don't want intense and bright colours and of course Visible Fish and maybe Wind Effects for immersion + Visible Panning Spots later on.... oh and Experience Bars to stay motivated!

but the most important might be NPCMapLocations because that is the one I couldn't live without by now

Ui Info Suite is much better than experience bars, its not vanilla but it only gives you info you should have anyway and makes the experience bars visible only when holding a tool related to that experience (axe foraging, pickaxe mining, etc). A good vanilla+ setup should be info suite, visible fish, dynamic reflections and potentially passable crops or fast animations. Would also agree on npc map locations, solid idea for people unsure where everyone is.

half of those I'd never heard of but google knows it all!
it says UI Info Suite doesn't work from Nexus, which is a shame cause I got a lot from that as extra mods, would be nice to have them all in one
dynamic reflections looks really good and I didn't know I needed this, passable crops sounds a bit overkill though and might take away from immersion
fast animations is definetly a personal choice, I actually like the small animations for everything
something else might also be Infinite Zoom but that one is not for everyone

I would say no mods until at least spring 1 year 3.

I believe its ui info suite 2 you need from a github page. Passable crops i would only use solely for walking through trellis crops, the rest of it i usually dont have, there is an argument for walking through weeds but i find its better to just slash them instead.

On your very first playthrough I don't recommend it but after go right ahead!

The thing is, a lot of people only do one playthrough so doing it without the ui and visual mods tends to lead to them never doing a playthrough with them.

going directly to modding without playing vanilla at all makes it very hard to a- troubleshoot, and b- get help from people with troubleshooting

very hard

you don't have to do a full playthrough but you will make life MUCH easier on yourself (and your future folks who are helping you diagnose mod problems) if you play like a season without just to see exactly how the base game works (and for added benefit it gives you a better idea of what kinds of mods to look for for your own tastes)

I suggest playing unmodded first then modded just to get the feel for base game before going and immersing yourself in all the mods

This guy's got it.

At the end of the day, if you see mods you really-really want, don't hold yourself back from getting them!

Otherwise it's probably best if you avoid mod browsing until you're familiar with the game. Many mods wouldn't make any sense without the context of the games mechanics anyway.

Also the mod lists themselves are inevitably spoilery.

i recommend first playing the game without mods, to enjoy your first play through the most. You should add mods as you go along the game, to keep it from getting stale. There are many awesome mods that can make the game much more interesting
