How to get prehistoric floors?
Is there any trick to this? I've done the desert mine skull cavern thing quite a bit, and I've only ever found a prehistoric floor ONCE. I have to kill 50 of those dino things, so I feel like this would taken FOREVER, unless there's some kind of trick to finding more prehistoric floors or dinos.
Anyone know of a trick for this?

just bring alot of staircases and if its not a prehistoric floor, use a staircase immediately. ignore everything else.

standard 300 floor dive strat.

Make sure you have good fortune for the day and lots of staircases. I don't remember if the fortune affects what types of floors will appear, but I'm guessing it does. Better to be safe than sorry.

I did it only going to 100 floors, if that, but over 3 or 4 in-game days. I'd hit about 2-3 prehistoric floors a day.

At least you did it though, cheers! :steamhappy:
If you don't mind breaking the immersion a bit, the Stardew Valley predictor tool will tell you which floors could be prehistoric

Absolutely this. With much "luck" via meals etc i had plenty of this in my last run.

I don't believe it does. If it did, the predictor would be basically useless (even though it almost is anyways, lol).

I tried this out, and I did it on two different days. Got two two of the predicted levels on day 1, and three of the predicted levels on day 2. Out of five possibilities, only one was an actual prehistoric floor. That's definitely nice, but it's extremely unreliable.

The one thing I've learned is that it looks like the prehistoric floors are set in stone (pun intended), meaning, if you repeat the same day over and over and over again, you will have the exact same results. So if you don't find a prehistoric floor on a certain day, no use repeating that day to try again.

My best strategy at this point, that I actually haven't seen anywhere else, is to (as noted above) use tons of staircases, BUT THEN if you don't find one, restart the day, waste the day doing other stuff, and try again the next day. That way you're not wasting millions of dollars worth of staircases.

I am so jealous of this... I've done about 200 floors, a few times now, and not gotten a single prehistoric floor in those runs. I think I've only seen a prehistoric floor 2-3 times now, and I've probably explored, I don't know, almost a thousand floors at this point, probably more.

I don't know what else to tell ya. It's based on luck. If you're still not getting the floor you want, blame RNGesus. When you go down into the cavern, it might already be pre-determined where the ladders are if you have the luck effect and perfect fortune for the day. So if you went in without the luck effect, you may not get those lucky ladder spots again until you exit the cavern and enter again. That's my theory anyway.

Exit and enter again with the luck effect active and the fortune*
