Dog blocking the damn path
Recently I decided to get another pet in stardew and chose the dog. For the last few playthroughs, I've passed out 5 times because of the dog blocking the path to the room.

I've read comments where people say you just need to click on the damn dog and they will move- well, it's not very effective. Sometimes he moves in the wrong direction and my character passes out.

Rather than this supposed fix, can I suggest that the creators/ devs look into 1) preventing entities (especially pets) from resting on the tiles in hallways or 2) make the pathways bigger, so I can walk around.

At this rate, I might get the butterfly powder and never have dogs again :steambored:

the 'path'

what are you talking about? if its in the house, its fine if you pass out on the floor, and you can move the bed or widen the path.

Sounds like he does what I do and turn the house into a factory filled with kegs or something. Anyway, I've never clicked on the dog, I've just pushed through them--after a few seconds, you can pass through, just like with NPCs. However, I confess that gaming has had a problem for DECADES with NPCs blocking your path. I just don't know why they don't make them not solid objects, at least with respect to your character. Immersion, I guess? But it's just as immersion breaking when some old lady is basically a brick wall I either can't get around or I have to force past with concerted effort.

in many games it would be quite jarring if every time you walk up to an npc to talk to them you partially walk into their body. or for npcs to just walk through you, eachother or the environment. giving them collision is just an easy way to avoid this issue without having to do a lot of work writing tons of situational exceptions.

not being able to walk through something like a cat or dog also makes it feel more real/more like actually your pet, you actually acknowledge its existence instead of it being a glorified painting on the wall. the annoyance adds value in this case (having some negative emotions in your game really really adds to the overall experience,)

Any type of "NPC" can be passed through by keep walking against them. Their sprite starts to "shake" after a while.

i found that if you move the plant that is by your door you can push the dog out of the way other wise it will not let you push him out of the way

Any of your pets can does this, try to make the area surrounding your doorway clear and
upgrade your house if you can so they will have more space to rest.

Except all the NPCs follow scripted paths, so they never walk into each other or the environment anyway--YOU are the only thing they smack into, or I guess your horse if you park in front of them, because they obliterate anything else they touch. It'd be jarring but it's also jarring that I can't STEP OVER A CAT. Like, I have a cat, he's right here, he is never an obstruction because I either step over him or, if I unfortunately don't see him, he is moved against his will when my foot pushes him out of the way. Negative emotions only add to the experience when it's frustration from a challenge or something, NOT when it's frustration from a game design choice like, to pick a different example some games have, an irritating UI.
