Don't worry I've played 40 hours and still can't catch a fish

Trying to catch an octopus is so insane... but unlike you, I can't even get angry at it. I just find it so crazy that I can't help but laugh.

I never try to catch them... but have happened to a couple times.

don't think you actually need an octopus for anything though, unless you're just going for 100%

The trap bobber can make the process a bit easier

Try catching the legends. They made me picture myself
punching them in the face when I finally go 'em o.o

Fishing does get easier as you level the skill and get access to lures and the iridium rod.

Trap Bobber and Fishing Food to extend the bar (this works even past lvl 10).

After catching one, you can make a Fish Pond for them and never have to use the mini game again. Granted, they'll always be Common, but they aren't reliable sellers anyway.

it's not even hard... I caught another one earlier not even trying....

I swear every time a game tries to be challenging someone will complain that it's "too hard". if it were any easier I'd literally be raking in octopus.

how about you actually invest into fishing and play the game as intended? or just get a mod, seems like your bag.

the game is intended as go at your own pace. There's no right or wrong way to play.

Lots of people struggle with fishing especially at the earlier levels, OP. Don't worry about catching the really difficult fish first time. It takes a lot of practice and you may just need to level up a bit more.

that's also true, fishing levels and the right gear makes a huge difference.

I've read that using a controller is easier than using a mouse. I use a mouse and the mini fishing game is not easy.

probably, controllers suck and need compensation to be comparable to mice...

I use both controller and mouse for this game and personally I don't think there is that big of a difference. Maybe it is a bit easier at the very beginning (low level fishing skill) using a controller but otherwise not really. I have also noticed that controller isn't always the best choice for this game when it comes to other things.

The fishing minigame itself isn't any easier if you've got a controller plugged in.

Playing the fishing minigame with a controller is easier for many people since the feedback you get from pushing a button on a controller is better than clicking with most mice. Controller buttons are designed to give you that feedback after all, most mice are not

Plus, you use your thumb to push the button instead of the index finger.

In the end it all depends on the individual, but overall playing the game with a controller is probably a bit easier for the average person.
just's either just saying people are used to a controller or admitting that there's some compensation... I have 0 issue whatsoever catching fish with my mouse and index finger... then again I got used to a mouse.

all you need to do is logically examine the situation... unless the controller interface has a form of compensation that the mouse doesn't it's personal preference...

pointing at a group of people who prefer something with no other supporting information isn't a very compelling argument.

Uhh... I'm not sure what "argument" you think I made.

My entire point was to reinforce the notion that the controller works better for the task for some people than the mouse, without requiring some kind of compensation as you asserted. As evidence I pointed at the many posts of people who said exactly that in the past.

I'm not claiming that the controller is objectively better at the task, if that's what's causing the confusion.
I've clearly been saying preference OR some sort of compensation... at least I thought I was.

possibly even both come to think of it.
