Modding With Steam Deck + Achievements

I am unable to get achievements after installing SMAPI and some mods while playing on my Steam Deck. I have a default Linux install of both Stardew and SMAPI, I see that for the Proton installs I'm supposed to put the path to the modding api exe in the launch options. Is something like that supposed to happen for the Linux version as well even though their instructions don't state it? When I try using the Linux path with %command% after it as a test, it won't even launch.

Am I supposed to switch to the proton version to do this? It looks like that involves adding a non-steam game version, so I don't know if that would get me what I want either.

Is there no way to actually do this other than to play it on a windows PC?

Changing the Steam launch properties is just for Windows installs, the linux installer script tries to set things up so launching the game normally will work but of course every linux machine is its own beast. It does need specific console features, do you have xterm installed?
